Overview
Dennis Keene is an AV® Preeminent™-rated partner who represents corporations and individuals in tort-based litigation, with an emphasis on product liability and trucking law. His diverse client base ranges from international manufacturers and national motor carriers to regional hauliers and local businesses. Mr Keene gained extensive trial experience as a judge advocate in the U.S. Army and continues to apply these trial skills as a civil practitioner, having litigated and tried numerous lawsuits in Georgia. He is also a registered neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution and has mediated a variety of personal injury, business, and interpersonal disputes.
Mr Keene is a member of the State Bars of Florida and Georgia and is admitted to practise in all Florida and Georgia state courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Georgia, the Middle District of Florida, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He has also appeared pro hac vice in multiple jurisdictions across the United States.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Motor Trucking Association and is a member of the Transportation Lawyers Association and the London Bar Association. Within the Bar, he chairs the Grievance Committee and serves on the Bench & Bar Committee. Mr Keene was an attorney coach for the High School Mock Trial Programme for 16 years and was recognised in 2011 as the Outstanding Attorney Coach for his region. He continues to volunteer as a mock trial evaluator. He also previously chaired the Annual Fund Campaign at a leading independent school and served on its Board of Trustees.
Mr Keene earned his B.A. in Economics, magna cum laude, from Syracuse University in 1990. While at Syracuse, he was a cadet in the Army ROTC programme and was awarded the General Meyer Leadership Award as the top-ranked cadet. He graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He obtained his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law in 1993, where he served as Articles and Comments Editor for the Business Law Journal and co-chaired the Student Bar Association’s Law-Related Education Programme.
Following law school, Mr Keene completed the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps Officer Basic Course, graduating in the top 12 of his class and earning a place on the Commandant’s List. From 1993 to 1999, he served on active duty in the U.S. Army in various legal roles including government contract attorney, procurement fraud advisor, prosecutor, and criminal defence counsel. As trial counsel, he acted as lead in over 75 courts-martial.
Mr Keene is married to Leslie Keene, who currently serves as President of the London Bar Association and is an associate judge in Greater London. They have two adult children—one is in dental school, and the other is a solicitor at a large law firm in the City of London.
